Direct to film (DTF) printing is a process which uses a special printer
with water-based inks to print a design to a piece of film, using a powder adhesive coating to be set in place. The print is then positioned and transferred from the film, on to your piece of clothing using heat and pressure.
This creates a crisp, bright print that shows the finest details. To ensure longevity of the print, a second, sealing press is done to ensure the print fully meshes with the fabric.
An issue commonly raised about DTF, is that the finished print can have a bit of a “plastic” feel to it. This can be true, however; with a proper second press and care for the quality of the print, along with good quality garments, this issue is non-existent.

My first foray into the clothing industry was early 2022, when I was hired at a print & embroidery shop as an embroiderer. This gave an early understanding and inside perspective of how it all worked. Soon after, I assisted my partner to launch her own clothing brand, Harbourwear. We invested in the proper machinery necessary for bringing these ideas to life and have continued to do so all from our small Halifax apartment.
All of this has helped me to discover my passion: creating clothing that I was proud of. Since then, I have helped friends, colleagues and other creatives to bring their ideas to life.
With that passion came the idea to start this business.
Jupiter’s Coat is an ode to our four legged son, Jupiter, and his perfect tiger stripes.
